Winter Sports

by: Kendra Schumacher
From November to February we have four very important teams that compete here at LCHS: wrestling, dance, and both girls and boys basketball. Let's take a look at how their seasons are going...

The Wrestling team this year has five seniors including Logan Van Handel, Dalton Polomis, Logan Collison, Ronald Butler, and the new addition, Ryan Janssen.  The boys were joined by the new varsity coach, Todd Verboomen.  Though their record may not show it by wins, the boys have a phenomenal team this year with a lot of talent.  The team just won their first team victory last week against Clintonville.  Aside from the varsity team, JV just competed in JV regionals.  Nolan Van Lankveldt won against freshman, Nate Hietpas, and will be sent to JV state yet this year.  As for the varsity team, regionals will take place in February.  Varsity state will take place February 23- 26 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The Pom and Dance team is currently coming off a win from the Oshkosh West competition placing first in pom, first in kick, and second in jazz.  Jordan Mars also placed second in her solo that she competed with.  In December, the team hosted their annual Holiday Invite where the school was packed full of amazing dancers.  The competition brings a lot of amazing talent into the school and is a great fundraiser for the girls.  This year the team will fly to Florida to attend nationals at Disney World.  The team is excited to show the nation what they have to offer and hopefully bring home another national championship.

The Girls Basketball team has four seniors this year including Tess Keyzers, Dora Gomm, Amanda Battle, and Kendra Schumacher.  This year the girls are currently third in conference with only two conference losses to Wrightstown (ended in OT) and Luxemburg- Casco.  Besides for the four seniors, the team is a relatively young team with two freshman, two sophomores, and five juniors.  The girls are coached by Rachel Hermus, Amy Procter, and Heidi Motoxin.  This year the team looks to make a statement and show their school what they have to offer.  Coming up, the girls will play both Freedom and FVL.

The Boys Basketball team has six seniors this year including Cory Diedrick, Noah Knudsen, Kyle Hietpas, Carson Mara, Devin Plate, and Sam Schommer.  The boys are coached by head coach, Mickey Martin.  The boys are currently second in conference after their big win against the undefeated team, Clintonville.  The team will finish their first round against conference teams with games against Luxemburg Casco, Oconto Falls, Freedom, and FVL. The team is excited to make history once again.

As you can see, our winter sports teams are doing outstanding this season and are representing our school amazingly!  I encourage anyone interested in watching any of these teams play to come to a game or two.  All athletes love and appreciate the support that comes from this amazing community!
